The History of National Lorry Week
National Lorry Week was launched by the Road Haulage Association (RHA) to raise the profile of the UK haulage industry and celebrate the contribution of drivers, operators, and the supply-chain workers who keep goods moving.
Here are some key milestones:
The first National Lorry Week took place in late October 2015 (26–31 October) under the strapline #LoveTheLorry. Its twin aims were: to raise public awareness of the haulage industry and to highlight the significant driver shortage facing the sector.
Over subsequent years, the campaign grew in reach, with the RHA and its members holding events across the UK, visiting schools, opening depots, parking HGVs in town-centres, and engaging with media and parliamentarians.
By 2024, the campaign marked its 10th annual edition (or “10th year” as the RHA describes it) and focused heavily on promoting the haulage sector as an attractive career choice—and on showcasing how trucks, drivers, and related logistics play a vital role in the economy.
In 2025, National Lorry Week ran from 3-9 November under the theme “Driven by You”, shining a spotlight on the often-unsung heroes of the industry — drivers, technicians, warehouse staff — and inviting nominations of “Lorry Legends”.
The National Lorry Week has grown from a modest industry-awareness week into a full-blown roadshow and national event, with major visibility, educational outreach, and public-engagement.
